Just before 1 a.m. Saturday, the Danbury Fire Department was dispatched to 8 Indian Spring Road in the Candlewood Lake area for the report of a chimney fire, said James Gagliardo, public information officer for the Danbury Fire Department.
Engine 23 arrived on scene first and encountered an attached garage with fire coming through the roof. Lt. Shawn McGee quickly reported that he had a working fire, adding additional units to the response.
Shortly after, Car 30, the night shifts Deputy Chief Joe Halas arrived on scene and requested a second alarm. That brought additional tankers due to the lack of hydrants in the area.
Units forced entry into the garage and firefighters were faced with what appeared to be a gas fed fire from a gas log stove, Gagliardo said. Once the gas and electric were secured the fire was extinguished.
The occupant, the future homeowner, and the moving crew were evaluated by Danbury Hospital EMS on scene and were found to have no injuries. There were two cats that were in the house at the time of the fire that did manage to get out, but firefighters were unable to locate them with all the activity.
Those who live in the area are being asked to keep an eye out for the cats.
Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
